Now that unions are under attack like no other time, we finally get to see peoples true colors. I have to say , I am disturbed by it. I am convinced if these people heard themselves , they would be embarrassed. I am also convinced that most have no clue what they are talking about. Which further frustrates the hell fire out of my working class ass. Seems most people in America forgot what the unions have done as far as labor laws and the preservation of said laws….but I’m not here today to tell of what unions do and don’t do. That, that is for another time. What I am here to do is point out how vindictive and jealous people get , when they see someone (peers) doing better than them.
Moments after Walker dropped the hammer and tried to pull a Reagan Light manuever on the unions I began to hear some rather disturbing things. Now being from New Jersey , I heard similar rumblings when Chris Christie (Reagan Heavy) started bullying the unions. You see Chris Christie is stealing money from the teachers, but he is not taking away bargaining rights of teachers. Walker is doing both. Chris Christie is demonizing unions. Walker is as well. Flat out saying teachers aren’t the problem , but the unions are. Saying the unions only care about the unions. Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t unions collect union dues? Now does or does not union dues go up depending on how much an employee makes ? I know mine do. So , if unions only cared about themselves and were greedy people, why would they ever negotiate for pensions and health care for members over higher wages ? Do you think it might actually have something to do with the unions thinking of their members long term stability when they retire? That doesn’t sound so evil or sinister, does it. And by asking all these questions that I know the answer to, am I beginning to sound like John Stossel. If so kill , me now. By the way thank you Dr. D. David Schultz for slapping him. ( for the record I am completely against violence but very pro comedic bitch slaps to grown men) Back to my point. This all came to a head with Walker becoming (in J.J. Walker voice complete with arm movements) KID REAGAN LIIIIIGHT !!!
People started saying things like “Darn right, time for them to pay up, all of us are” Or this , ” I don’t have a health care and pension plan, why should they “… Or my personal favorite, ” They should just be happy to have a job “…are you kidding me, are you really fucking kidding me ? Where else than in misinformed , apathetic America would you have people saying things like that. I am still trying to figure out when people say “Time to pay up, all of us are ” who exactly is the “all of us “. It sure as hell isn’t the ones who got the economy into this mess. Banks and Wall Street. So is it the middle class and poor that are paying? Okay…..and….what now? So people in the middle class are being burdened to carry the load. The middle class and poor are being asked to carry the cross for the bankers and Wall Streets sins. So why would someone in the middle class be angry at someone because they are not hurting. Mad at someone because they are able to feed their family , keep a roof over their head and have health care for their family and a pension when they get older. Why be angry with them. Does misery truly love company?
Would someone who has a terrible husband, look at a woman who has a husband who cares for her and faithful to her, and say ” Hey, that lady’s husband is way better than mine, she should have to get a divorce.” Could you imagine someone who lost their dog because it was hit by a car, could you imagine them walking into your house right after your dog was killed , and say to you ” Darn right, I lost my dog , you should too.” Another example , a guy instantly hates a less attractive guy walking down the street with a smoking hot woman. Hates him. Asks himself ” Why not me?” But if he was to meet them later that night out at a bar, and found out the guy was rich , he would say to himself “Oh, that is why she’s with him.” And accept that. But if he found out the guy was just an average nice guy, he would be insanely jealous . I mean , I wouldn’t know by experience or anything. Now , if the jealous person was a thinker and logical and an optimist , he might take that as a sign that , hey, I might have a chance at finding happiness. Not wish for the guy to lose her.
So is this a case of “If I cant have it, nobody can? Do we not realize that this is not a race to the bottom? Come on people. Everyone should be so lucky as to have health care and pensions. We as a society are never going to survive if we do not wake up to what is really going on. Unions only represent 12% of the work force. They represented 23% in the early 80′s. Wages have remained stagnant for the middle class for 30 years, while the top 5% have gone through the roof. Decline of unions means drop or stagnation in wages. This is not a coincidence. These are facts. Wages in Right to Work States (anti union) make four thousand dollars LESS than states that are pro union. So in closing, if you are wishing for unions to be gone, if you are laughing that unions are being phased out, you really , truly need to wake up. You are signing your own middle class death certificate.
